DIABETES

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a life-threatening disease that affects an estimated 463 million people worldwide. This is a disease that comes about from having blood glucose—also referred to as blood sugar—levels that are too high. When you ingest certain foods and beverages, your pancreas should release insulin, which aids in transferring the glucose into your cells, where it’s used for energy. But people who have diabetes either don’t produce sufficient insulin or the insulin isn’t used as it should be. This means that glucose remains in the blood, which leads to having blood sugar levels that are too high.

There are two types of diabetes; Type I and Type II. Type I diabetes is when the body doesn’t make insulin. People with Type I diabetes need to inject themselves with daily insulin doses. Type II diabetes is the kind where the body either doesn’t make enough insulin or it doesn’t use it properly.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care For Diabetes

Along with doctor-recommended care for diabetes, patients with this disease can reap many additional benefits by supplementing with chiropractic care. Chiropractic care has proven useful in helping to stabilize blood glucose levels in both types of diabetes.

When nerve signals between the neck and mid-back to the brain are interrupted or hindered, the pancreas and other organs don’t receive the brain signals to release insulin, digestion is negatively impacted and blood sugar levels are unregulated. While some of the factors involving diabetes involve a poorly functioning or damaged pancreas, one factor may be that the pancreas is simply not receiving the correct brain signals when insulin is needed. We can work on improving the signal pathways between the neck and mid-back to the brain.

Along with Chiropractic care patients the Nurse Practitioner will utilize personalized nutrition plans as well as nutritional supplements based on the lab work we receive to work on decreasing the need for medication. Combining medical and chiropractic care is a recipe for success when trying to manage Diabetes.
